Well, it's that time again.
Since I haven't updated the blog in a while, I'm just posting this to accomplish two things: One, to make it clear that, yes, the blog is still active and I will continue to use this for ongoing projects. Two, to give an update on what's been going on since the previous post.
What I have been up to-
Since my last post in... September of 2023? Has it really been that long? Alright, well, a lot has been happening in my life since then, so I'm not all that surprised that I had to set this blog aside for a while. Well the short version is that I graduated from college, I've been working retail while I search for a job that utilizes my degree in Computer Information Systems, and I've been continuing my modding projects for Doom. (Oh and by the way, the first episode of my Doom 1 remake, Spectacle Creep, is out. You can see the trailer for it here.)
I'll spare you the details on the long version, as a lot of what happened is a bit too personal for me to feel comfortable talking about it here. But that I have a job at Lowe's that I've been fairly content with and have all my college stuff squared away this past summer, things have been very... fine. While progress has been slow since then, I think this quiet period has been very crucial for me development. It's given me some time to heal from the near-constant state of mental panic I was in previously, and I've been able connect with people again instead of isolating myself. And with all that said, that means it's time to start moving forward again.
So what does all this mean? Well for starters, it means I'm going to once again be doing occasional posts to this blog when I release something, come up with new ideas I want to share, etc. And secondly, it means I'm going to back on the job hunt, so that I can find something that makes use of my degree and hopefully pays a little better.
And just for the record: I have nothing against Lowe's, nor am I in any rush to leave. They've been a genuinely great employer for the year and a half that I've been there, and you can tell by how candidly I speak on this blog that I don't give that compliment out lightly. They have benefits for part-time employees, they have an employee relief fund, they do a bunch of charity stuff. In fact, just recently they gave bonuses to most of their store associates just after "Our Competitor in Atlanta" cut bonuses for their associates in half, fully aware that it would damage their stock value, and they did it anyway. In my opinion, it's an easy referral to anyone who's currently job hunting, Lowe's will take care of you. If there was an entry-level position within Lowe's corporate that I could apply for that would utilize my degree, I would absolutely apply.
But sadly, I have not seen that. So, I will happily stick with them until I find something in my field of study.
